Four Winds Mahjong · A Seat Within The Table

There's always
a fourth seat.
Someone has to fill it.

The Ghost Seat is horror, anime, and ancestor stories dealt into a real mahjong table — built for convention floors, fandom meetups, and the kind of game night where the empty chair always has a story attached to it.

Three seats filled. One left burning for whoever sits down next.

What Happens At This Table

We teach the tiles like they're telling on somebody.

Every session opens the same way a good ghost story does: slow, a little too quiet, everyone pretending they're not already hooked. The rules of Hong Kong Mahjong or American Mahjong get taught the same as anywhere — but the hands, the discards, the wait for a winning tile, all of it gets narrated like the table itself is haunted by whoever taught it to me first.

This is the room for people who came up on anime marathons and horror movie sleepovers, who want their game night to have a narrative streak running through it, not just a scoreboard. Nobody here is asked to check the fandom at the door.

— the seat built for the people who'd rather be told a story than dealt a hand.

A table can be a lighthouse, too — not because it tells you where to go, but because the light stays on for whoever's still finding their way to it.

The Rulesets

Three tables. One of them still being learned by candlelight.

Traditional

Hong Kong Mahjong

The classic three-suit, four-wind game, taught the way it's actually played at a real table — not the way it gets summarized in a listicle.

Coming Soon

Riichi (Japanese Mahjong)

Currently deep in study on this ruleset myself. It joins the table once I can teach it the same way I teach everything else here: properly, and with respect for where it came from.

Card-Based

American Mahjong

NMJL-style card play, the Charleston, and the particular chaos of a Joker changing hands mid-round — built for a table that talks as much as it plays.

Where We've Held Court

Convention floors and fandom rooms, not banquet halls.

The Ghost Seat travels to the rooms where this crowd already gathers, instead of asking them to come somewhere unfamiliar to learn a new game — bookstores and libraries most of all, especially the haunted ones. Haunted by the souls of books that whisper their tales to those willing to hear them.

Best for: conventions, fandom meetups, haunted bookstores and libraries, game nights with a narrative streak.

"I spent years feeling like the guest in rooms built for someone else. Four Winds Mahjong is the table I wished I'd been handed a seat at from the start — and the Ghost Seat is where that table gets to be a little haunted on purpose. Every story we tell here runs on one rule that doesn't bend: everyone gets dealt in."

Pull up the fourth chair.

Convention bookings, fandom meetups, and private sessions all start with a message.
